Women’s Audi FIS Ski World Cup on Killington Mountain

The best female alpine skiers in the world will convene on Thanksgiving weekend here in snowy Killington, VT. Killington Mountain will yet again play host to the 2018 Women’s Audi FIS Ski World Cup. This ultra-popular free event will be the only World Cup expo in the United States this winter. After the Northeast went 25 years without hosting a World Cup, this exciting sport returned to Killington Mountain in 2016. The professional skiers and FIS were so pleased that they almost immediately announced the city would host the World Cup again in 2017 and 2018. We’re now five weeks away from this stunning display, which entertained 30,000 onlookers a year ago.

Killington Mountain will likely see thousands more arrive to watch Mikaela Shiffrin attempt to best her second-place finish from 2017. After a delicious Thanksgiving dinner, head up to the Green Mountains for a one-of-a-kind spectacle! The Killington Group still has some availability for Thanksgiving weekend; book now before our luxurious vacation rentals quickly sell out!

Ladies’ Slalom

Ninety athletes from over 20 countries are expected to race down the Superstar trail on Killington Mountain. The event will be broadcasted to millions of people on NBC and NBCSN. Shiffrin will likely perform in both events. She finished first in the giant slalom at the 2018 Winter Olympics, besting Ragnhild Mowinckel (Norway) and Federica Brignone (Italy). Shiffrin missed the slalom podium by 0.08 seconds at the same Olympics – a fact she hasn’t forgotten. Frida Hansdotter (Sweden), Wendy Holdener (Switzerland), and Katharina Gallhuber (Austria) all finished ahead of the two-time gold medal winner.

Live Entertainment

Not many free events feature such a diverse and talented music lineup. Lucky onlookers will have the chance to see growing Scottish superstar KT Tunstall, Boston-based Guster, reggae master Michael Franti, and the former #1 DJ in the world, Paul Oakenfold. Hopefully, we’ll get to hear Guster play “Satellite” and Franti perform “Say Hey.” You never know what Oakenfold will pull out of his hat, and Tunstall’s “Black Horse and the Cherry” will set the crowd ablaze. Teton Gravity Research will also be screening their latest film, “Far Out.”

Daily Festivities

Killington Mountain will still be open to the public, so you can spend hours skiing or snowboarding on a slightly modified course. We take alpine skiing very seriously here in the Northeast, which is why there will be fireworks, parades, autograph sessions, and so much more! This event is free, but a limited amount of enhanced viewing tickets are available.

Killington Mountain: Even Better Than Before

Killington Mountain, everyone’s favorite Killington ski rental getaway, is getting significant upgrades, and we are beyond excited to share them with everyone! Killington Mountain has always been a popular Vermont destination for skiers, snowboarders, adventurers, travelers, and everyone in between. 2018 and 2019 are bringing some notable changes!

The Lifts

A few additions are going into our lift system to create a faster operation to get more people on the hills while also improving access. Our principal focus is usually on our challenging advanced hills, but we want to make sure families are having a good time too. We are adding a Snowdon six-person bubble chairlift to the Snowdon Peak hills. The Snowdon Quad lift is also being relocated and refurbished. The South Ridge Quad will also be moving to where the South Ridge Triple was to create easier access to the north side of the resort and hills. New gate programs will also make access easier and hands-free.

The Terrain

Many of our hills are also getting a makeover for even better experiences. Tunnels and bridges will be added to four different intersections to improve traffic flow and remove pinch points. We will also be widening trails so that there is a little more elbow room for everyone to be comfortable.

The Resort

The resorts amenities will be acquiring a few fun updates and add-ons. The Woodward WreckTangle will have an outdoor ninja obstacle course added in with nine sections for an epic obstacle adventure. There will also be a few changes made to the Adventure Center. The other attraction being modified is the Killington Mountain Bike Park with a few trail changes and new additions.

Nor’Easters, A Skier’s Dream

On the east coast, there is something that many locals find to be a nuisance. However, for those who love shredding through the snow, it is a dream come true. The Nor’ Easter is a winter storm that typically brings chilly coastal winds from the northeast and buckets of snow to Vermont and surrounding states. These fierce winter storms produce some of the best powder for those staying in Vermont ski vacation rentals by The Killington Group, creating the optimal winter sports playground.

March has already seen over six feet of snow and it is not over yet! Travelers staying in a Killington ski rental were nothing short of thrilled to see that fresh white powder falling from the sky. This scene means the slopes are coated and ready for some fun! These heavy snow storms create layers of snow that last for the majority of the year and well into late spring. This means a long season of time in the hills kicking up some snow.

Vacation Rentals VS Hotels: Why To Stay In A Vacation Rental

You have your destination picked out, you have searched area activities, and you know what dates you want to make your escape, but you have not figured out where you are staying. This is common for travelers with all the choices out there. Between vacation rentals and hotels, there could be hundreds of options. Here are a few different ways a vacation rental could be a better fit and save your money on your next trip.

Privacy And The Comfort Of A Home

In hotels, guests find themselves in a room sandwiched between a hall of numerous other units that look exactly the same. You often end up needing to whisper so neighbors are not disturbed, or you can hear the couple across the hall having clear a disagreement on something. When you stay in a vacation home, you usually stay in an actual home. Whether it be a cozy cabin or a luxury house, you keep your privacy and can tell your place apart from the next by more than just a number on the door. You can put on your favorite tunes while dancing in the kitchen and cook your favorite meal and none of your neighbors will come knocking at your door to quiet down.

Groups Space And Saving Moneyvermont ski vacation rentals

When traveling in groups, space can be a huge convenience but also a huge expense. Instead of a group of 5 or more going in on a suite or getting several rooms in a hotel and sleeping wherever there is space, you could each have your own bed or bedroom in a vacation rental. Many vacation rentals are full-sized homes and are made to accommodate everyone comfortably and can be found at affordable prices. Vacation rental properties usually sleep 6 to 14 guests so no member of the party needing to hit the hay on a carpeted floor.

You will also have more of choice in the living space available. If you are on a week-long ski trip in Vermont with 6 of your best buds, you will not want to have all of your gear in one tiny space. Vermont ski vacation rentals offer enough space for your gear and for your group to relax in living and dining areas. You will also save more money by not needing to order food for your meals as vacation rental homes have full kitchens with all of the appliances required to prepare your meals.

Which One Do You Choose?

Though hotels are fitting for some and make more sense for certain events, they are simply not for everyone. Staying in a vacation rental definitely has its advantages. When you are looking to ski, take a family vacation, or just want to get away for a while, a vacation rental like those offered by The Killington Group would be a fantastic choice. Take a look at their website to see just how comfortable and affordable their Vermont ski vacation rentals are. When planning your next getaway or Vermont ski adventure, The Killington Group’s vacation rentals could be perfect for you.
