For those dreaming of colorful fall foliage, what better way to catch a panoramic view than from above? Killington’s eight-passenger K-1 Gondola takes passengers to the highest Vermont peak where, on a clear day, one can catch views stretching into five states and even Canada! The gondola will operate daily between September 2 and October 14 from 10 am to 5 pm. Start your adventure from Killington Base Lodge, located at the top of Killington Road, just 5 miles from the junction of U.S. 4 and VT 100 North in Sherburne. At the top of the mountain, grab a bite to eat with the family at Peak Lodge. For thrill-seekers, there’s the additional open of the open-air Soaring Eagle ride, which will be available on weekends through Columbus Day. Don’t miss out on one of the best fall-foliage views New England has to offer!

Hike to Killington Peak

For those who love the outdoors but also enjoy a good workout, consider hiking to Killington Peak via Bucklin Trail, a 7.2-mile roundtrip. The trailhead can be found a few miles up Wheelerville Road and winds lazily through the forest for about the first mile before becoming steeper. Cooper’s Cabin is about three-fourths the way up and a great place to stop for a view and snack. The final leg of the trail involves rock scrambling a few hundred feet to the peak where you are rewarded with vast forests boasting Killington fall colors. It’s also a great place to catch one’s breath and stop for lunch. One properly recovered from the ascent, hikers can return the same way or opt for a shorter descent to the Peak Lodge and walk down 2 miles to Base Lodge. Dogs are also welcome on this hike!
