When you’re planning a Vermont vacation, you’re probably expecting plenty of winter activities to do. Killington is the ideal destination for the entire family, featuring everything from skiing to snowboarding and everything in between. Luckily, even if you don’t want to snowboard or ski, you can still take advantage of the winter fun. Here are some of our favorite ultimate winter activities near our Killington vacation home rentals.
Snowshoe Tours
Snowshoe tours can be a great way to explore the most gorgeous Killington nature without taking to the slopes. Bear Trax Adventures is one of the most popular destinations for snowshoe tours. Primarily, the snowshoe tours use the hiking trails that are adjacent to the Snowshed and Ramshead. Snowshoes and poles are provided at no extra cost, so all you have to do is show up! The Classic Killington Tour is the most popular option, which will take you along hiking trails, mountain bike trails, and ski home trailer. The tour is about 2.5 miles long and is suitable for all levels.
While the Classic Killington Tour can take 90 minutes to 2 hours, Bear Trax does offer a one-hour Beginner and Families Tour as well. This route utilizes either gentle hiking trails or cart paths on the golf course, depending on conditions and the ages of people in the group. Additionally, Bear Trax Adventures offers a Top of Snowshed Tour, Ramshead Rambler Tour, and Moonlight in Vermont Tour, just to name a few. You’re also able to schedule a private tour that is tailored to your group.
Snowmobile Tours
Looking for an adrenaline rush? Book a snowmobile tour! Snowmobile Vermont is one of the most popular companies, and it’s also the oldest and largest snowmobile tour company in the state. Both of their tours include an experienced guide, snowmobile, boots, and helmets.
Book the Mountain Tour for a 1-hour thrill ride through the woods on the groomed trails.
This gives you a unique perspective on the Killington Mountain slopes, and if you’re doing a tour after hours, you might even find yourself snowmobiling on a trail that you skied earlier in the day! Additionally, they offer a Backcountry Tour, which lasts 2 hours and takes you 25 miles through the Calvin Coolidge State Forest. They even offer a Kids’ Tour for the young ones in your group!
Tubing
Tubing at Killington is one of the most unique and fascinating ways to explore the terrain. Visit the Killington Tubing Park at the Clubhouse on East Mountain Road. This is a multi-lane, lift-serviced tubing park that offers everyone the chance to get involved! Tubing sessions are one hour long and start at the top of the hour, and tickets can be purchased on their website. You’ll receive tubing park access, a tube rental, and lift service with your purchase price. If you are looking to eat some of the best food near Killington Mountain, be sure to stop by the Clubhouse Grill for a snack once you’re done tubing!
Ski Bike Rentals
Finally, ski biking through Killington is a great way to get involved. Ski biking is great for anyone, even if you don’t have any prior experience. Killington Ski Bikes is operated by Alpine Bike Works and remains one of the most popular ways to rent a ski bike. You can rent a bike for half a day or a full day, and you will receive a 15 to 30-minute orientation session before you’re let loose. Ski bikes are available in small, medium, and large sizes, so everyone can participate! Be sure to wear a warm jacket and sturdy winter boots. You will receive a helmet with your bike rental.
