The Killington Skiing Season Is Finally Here

The nation’s first-to-open and last-to-close ski resorts are officially up and running here in mid-November. Killington Mountain, the “Beast of the East,” already has over a foot of snow with more headed our way this upcoming weekend.

The Killington skiing scene is widely considered the premier winter getaway in New England for many reasons.

The fresh powder is meticulously-groomed, the Killington Mountain views are breathtaking, and The Killington Group has dozens of conveniently-located vacation rentals. Let’s take a closer look at Killington Mountain’s new features, improvements, and early-season conditions.

Killington’s New Features and Improvements

One of the main reasons that tourists from across the globe flock to the Green Mountains every winter for a Killington skiing adventure is our area’s never-ending thirst for expansion and improvement. Skiers and snowboarders return every winter to utilize the improved terrain, new lifts, and added trails. The mountain just underwent a $25 million facelift. You’ll notice a new high-speed, six-person chairlift with a bubble shield, enhanced trails, and more tunnel systems to eliminate the crossovers. New snowmaking and grooming equipment were also purchased, a feature you’ll discern immediately after carving down your first hill.

Early Season Conditions

Killington Mountain already has 12 inches of snow depth, and, as stated above, we’re expecting a good amount of snowfall this weekend. With continued cold temperatures for snowmaking and natural snow, the trail conditions at the highly-anticipated Women’s Audi FIS Ski World Cup should be prime. In the coming days, new trails and lifts will be greenlighted. We’re currently sitting at 15 inches of snow depth at the peak.

Why do nearly one million people visit Killington Mountain each year? We believe there are five key reasons: the mountain views, fresh powder, friendly culture, 212 trails, and affordable vacation rentals. The views from the mountain’s peak are simply stunning. You’re nearly standing in the clouds. The mountain is particularly beautiful after a fresh snowfall or hoarfrost. With over 200 trails, spanning 92 miles, Killington Mountain provides a week’s worth of thrills. We’re only days away from the highly-anticipated Women’s Audi FIS Ski World Cup, a must-visit for skiing enthusiasts of all ages.
