While Killington is a well-known winter getaway, you may not know what it has to offer during the rest of the year. Did you know, Killington Bike Park is the top-ranked mountain biking resort east of Whistler? Even if you’re not a mountain biker, a summer in one of our Killington condos for rent will not disappoint. From ice cream to hiking, here are the top five things to do in Killington during the summer months.
Ben and Jerry’s
On a hot summer day, there’s no greater pleasure than cooling off with a few scoops of ice cream. But here in Vermont, you can think bigger than picking up a cone at your corner store. Waterbury, just an hour’s drive from Killington, is home to the motherlode of ice cream: Ben & Jerry’s Vermont factory.
Here, you can take a 30-minute guided tour, which informs about company history, gives a glimpse of the manufacturing process, and most importantly of all, provides a free sample of one of Ben & Jerry’s incredible ice cream flavors!
Sample your favorite classics, like Cherry Garcia and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, or get adventurous with unique flavors such as Berry Sweet Mascarpone and Pumpkin Cheesecake. Other options, including light ice cream, frozen yogurts, and even dairy-free ice cream, are also available. No one will be left out!
Visit Ben & Jerry’s factory at 1281 Waterbury-Stowe Road in Waterbury. Tours are offered 7 days a week all-year round. Each tour has a capacity of 40 people on a first-come, first-serve basis. Special reservations can be made for groups of 10 or more.
Billings Farm and Museum
Pay a visit to Woodstock, Vermont, to step back in time with the Billings Farm and Museum. It was originally built in 1873 as a large-scale dairy operation. Now, it exists as a testament to rural life in Vermont and serves to educate the public about the state’s farming history.
There is plenty to keep one occupied on a full-day trip from Killington. Get up close and personal with farm animals, tour the furnished farmhouse, or learn a new skill like milking cows. The museum displays many traditional farm life scenes, which include authentic farm equipment, family possessions, and oral histories.
For some fun in Woodstock, visit the farm and museum at 69 Old River Road, Woodstock.
Rockefeller National Park
Vermont is an outdoorsman’s paradise. Just a 30-minute drive from Killington, you’ll find the Rockefeller National Park, one of Vermont’s most beautiful landscapes. There you’ll find sugar maples and ancient hemlocks in what feels like a truly enchanted forest. Take a hike along winding woodland carriage roads; there are trails for all fitness levels.
Experienced rangers offer at least four tours a day, which allows visitors to learn something new about the park and the conservation efforts that protect it. Special programs are available seasonally to highlight locations associated with the Underground Railroad, abolition meetings, and the town’s free African American community.
Around every corner, you will discover something new and beautiful. Trails are open year-round from dawn until dusk. Parking can be found at the Billings Farm and Museum overflow parking lot.
