Where To Try Kayaking Near Killington, Vermont

Killington may be best known for its ski resort, but that doesn’t mean skiing is the only thing to do. During warmer months, there are just as many (if not more!) exciting Killington summer outdoor activities to keep the entire family occupied. Consider hiking, mountain biking, golfing, or kayaking. 

Vermont offers unspoiled shorelines, which makes for great paddling on gorgeous lakes and often results in some exciting wildlife viewing. There are lakes with varying sizes and personalities to explore in Killington, Chittenden, Rutland, and beyond. The Chittenden Reservoir is a local favorite.

Appalachian Trail Adventures

This rental company boasts Killington’s largest kayak rental fleet, with 20 top-quality single-person kayaks. They cater to couples and families, although at this time do not offer 2-person kayaks. Kayaks are available for lake trips only and cannot be taken to rivers without a guide.

The single-person kayak rental package includes a kayak and paddle, cell phone dry bag, and personal flotation device. Costs are $40 for a two-hour rental with an extra $35 fee for every extra hour. Prices can be arranged individually if you wish to rent a kayak for multiple days.

If needed, transportation is available. Kayaks can be delivered for free to Kent Pond and Colton Pond. For $30 per group, your kayaks can be delivered to Lefferts Pond or Chittenden Reservoir.

Kayak King

For some great family fun on Kent Pond, look no further than the Kayak King. They have been providing family-friendly kayak rentals in the Killington area for over 15 years. Kayaks are only available for Kent Pond, which is known for its breathtaking views and diverse wildlife. It is well protected from the wind, has calm waters, and is easy enough that even the kids will have a great time!

Great River Outfitters

Located in Windsor, Vermont, this outdoor adventure outfitting company provides 2–3-hour rentals and full kayaking excursions. Most of their rental fleet are 10-foot recreation kayaks with a wide-open sit-in cockpit equipped with 2 cup holders and a small depression to pack light gear. Rentals can be made online. 

Alternatively, if you’d like a longer trip and a little guidance, Great River Outfitters provides many guided trips tailored to your liking. Select from 4-5-hour trips, 6-8-hour trips, a sunset paddle trip, or multi-day camping river trip.

Reservoir Dawgs Kayak Rentals

Reservoir Dogs is located in Chittenden and provides easy access to explore nearby Chittenden Reservoir. The company believes in providing affordable non-motorized watercraft so that anyone can view nature without disturbing the local flora and fauna. Their rentals are just $25 per boat, which includes all taxes, a personal floatation device, and paddles. Rental tandem kayaks are also available at $35. If you need help getting your boat to the lake, a shuttle service is available for $10.
